With an eye for the strange and the archaic, Philip Walling, a former sheep farmer and barrister, recounts the story of sheep in Britain, their shepherds and owners, learns about their pivotal role in the past and confronts the present realities of farming. Along the way, he explores the artisan heritage of mole-catchers, stick-makers, tobacco-twisters and clog-wrights, in a country life parallel to modern existence, struggling to remain unchanged.
