Description
Dr John Adamson was the older brother of Robert Adamson, famous for his pioneering photography partnership with David Octavius Hill. John Adamson remained an amateur as his photography had to be fitted around his busy medical practice in St Andrews. These photographs are drawn mainly from two extremely early and significant albums, presented to the National Museum of Scotland in the 1940s, which for conservation reasons cannot be put on permanent display. Published as a follow-up to the popular 2015 exhibition Photography: A Victorian Sensation.
